What Are the Best Summer Activities in San Antonio?

Patrick Kevin Fagan Patrick Kevin Fagan Updated August 2026

San Antonio summers are hot, but the city offers excellent ways to beat the heat and enjoy the season.

Water parks: Schlitterbahn Waterpark (New Braunfels, world-famous), SeaWorld San Antonio (water rides, shows), and Six Flags Fiesta Texas (water park included).

Lake activities: Canyon Lake (45 min) for swimming, boating, and paddleboarding. River tubing on the Guadalupe River (1 hour) is a classic Texas summer activity.

Water Parks

Schlitterbahn: multiple sections, tube chutes, wave pool. SeaWorld: water rides, animal shows. Fiesta Texas: White Water Canyon, Bahama Blaster slide. All have season passes.

Lake Activities

Canyon Lake: swimming at Comal Park, boat rentals, paddleboard rentals. Medina Lake: quieter, good fishing. Calaveras Lake: fishing, limited swimming.

River Activities

Guadalupe River tubing: popular stretches from Canyon Lake to New Braunfels. Equipment rental included in shuttle service. Expect 3-4 hour float trips.

Outdoor Events

Evening outdoor concerts: The Espee, Tobin Center outdoor series, and neighborhood parks. San Antonio FC soccer matches. Missions baseball (affordable, family fun).

Indoor Options

Indoor escapes: The DoSeum (children's museum), IMAX at Rivercenter, movie theaters, and shopping at the Rim or La Cantera (enclosed).

Summer Survival Tips

Stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, avoid outdoor activities 12-4 PM, seek air conditioning, and take advantage of water activities.

Patrick's Take

Summer in San Antonio is all about water and early morning/late evening activities. I help clients find homes with pools or near lakes.
