How Do I File a Home Warranty Claim in San Antonio?

Patrick Kevin FaganPatrick Kevin FaganUpdated August 19, 2026

Call your home warranty company as soon as the system or appliance fails. You will pay a service fee (typically $75-$125 per visit). The warranty company dispatches a licensed contractor to diagnose the issue, and you must get approval before repairs begin. Follow up to make sure the work is completed to your satisfaction.

Filing Your Claim

Call your home warranty provider or file online through their portal. Have your policy number, the appliance make and model, and a description of the problem ready. Most companies process claims within 24 hours and schedule a contractor visit within 48 hours.

The Service Fee

Every claim visit costs a service fee, typically $75-$125. You pay this directly to the contractor. If the warranty company denies the claim, you do not pay the fee. Some policies charge a higher fee for after-hours or emergency service.

Getting Approval for Repairs

The contractor inspects and submits a repair estimate to the warranty company. Do not authorize work until the warranty company approves it. If they deem the item unrepairable, they may offer a cash settlement or replacement instead.

Following Up After Repairs

Test the system or appliance after the repair. If the problem persists, contact the warranty company right away. Most policies cover the same issue for 30 days without an additional service fee. Keep all documentation for your records.

Patrick's Take

"A home warranty can save you hundreds when a major system fails, but the process requires patience. Always read what is covered before you need it. I recommend my buyers consider a warranty for the first year in a new home."
