What Makes San Antonio Family-Friendly?

Patrick Kevin Fagan Patrick Kevin Fagan Updated August 2026

San Antonio is one of the most family-friendly cities in Texas, offering affordable housing, excellent parks, and numerous family activities.

Housing affordability: median home prices are lower than Austin, Dallas, or Houston, allowing families to buy more home for their money.

Parks and playgrounds: over 200 city parks, multiple award-winning playgrounds, and 70+ miles of Greenway trails.

Parks and Playgrounds

Top parks: Phil Hardberger Park, Woodlawn Lake Park, McAllister Park. Splash pads at Hemisfair and Woodlawn. The DoSeum is an amazing children's museum.

Kid Attractions

Kid attractions: The DoSeum (interactive children's museum), San Antonio Zoo, Natural Bridge Caverns, SeaWorld, and Six Flags Fiesta Texas.

Family Events

Annual family events: Fiesta (parades, food), Jack-O-Lantern Jubilee (Halloween), Zoo Lights (holidays), and Easter egg hunts at various parks.

Neighborhoods

Family-friendly neighborhoods: Stone Oak (great schools, suburban), Alamo Heights (walkable, top schools), The Dominion (luxury, golf course), and Boerne (Hill Country, excellent schools).

Schools

School districts: North East ISD (highly rated), Northside ISD (largest, diverse programs), Alamo Heights ISD (top ranked), and Boerne ISD (excellent).

Cost of Living

Cost of living: 8% below national average. Housing is the biggest advantage. Families can afford larger homes with yards compared to other major Texas cities.

Patrick's Take

San Antonio is an excellent place to raise a family. I help families find homes in the best neighborhoods with access to great schools and amenities.
