Patrick Kevin FaganPatrick Kevin FaganUpdated August 18, 2026

Annual attic inspection: check insulation level, look for moisture stains or mold, inspect for pest evidence, check ventilation adequacy, look for light leaks indicating roof damage, and inspect flashing around vents. Wear protective gear including a mask and gloves.

What to Check

Insulation depth, moisture stains, mold, pest droppings, ventilation, light leaks.

Safety Gear

Long sleeves, pants, gloves, mask, and a sturdy board to walk on between joists.

Moisture Signs

Dark stains, white mineral deposits, musty odors, or visible mold growth.

Pest Evidence

Droppings, nesting materials, chewed wires, or signs of rodents or insects.

Ventilation

Ensure soffit vents are not blocked by insulation. Check ridge and gable vents.
