River Walk: Urban Trail System

The San Antonio River Walk is the city's most famous outdoor feature, with 15 miles of interconnected trails along the river. The Museum Reach extension has added beautiful landscaping and art installations. The Mission Reach trail connects to the historic missions and is popular with runners and cyclists. The River Walk is a world-class urban amenity.

Major Parks: McAllister, Hardberger, Friedrich

McAllister Park is the largest municipal park at 976 acres with sports fields, trails, and a dog park. Phil Hardberger Park features 500+ acres of natural areas, trails, and the new Robert L.B. Tobin Land Bridge (the largest wildlife crossing in the United States). Friedrich Wilderness Park offers rigorous hiking with Hill Country views just minutes from the city.

Greenway Trails

The San Antonio Greenway trail system is expanding rapidly, with over 100 miles of paved multi-use trails planned. Current trails include Salado Creek, Leon Creek, and Medio Creek greenways. These trails connect neighborhoods, parks, and commercial areas, providing safe routes for walking, running, and cycling.

State Parks: Government Canyon, Enchanted Rock

Government Canyon State Natural Area, located just northwest of the city, offers 40 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails through Hill Country terrain. Enchanted Rock State Natural Area (about 90 minutes away) is a popular weekend destination. Hill Country State Natural Area near Bandera is known for equestrian trails.
