What Is Loss of Use Coverage on My Homeowners Policy?

Patrick Kevin FaganPatrick Kevin FaganUpdated August 19, 2026

Loss of use coverage, also called additional living expenses or Coverage D, pays for your temporary living costs if your home is damaged by a covered event like a fire, storm, or vandalism and you cannot live there while it is being repaired. It covers rent for temporary housing, restaurant meals, and other extra expenses above your normal costs.
