Do I Need Carbon Monoxide Detectors in My Home?

Patrick Kevin FaganPatrick Kevin FaganUpdated August 19, 2026

Yes, install carbon monoxide detectors on every level of your home and near each sleeping area. Place them within 15 feet of any fuel-burning appliance such as gas furnaces, water heaters, stoves, and fireplaces. Test the alarm monthly and replace batteries twice a year. Replace the entire detector unit every five to seven years.
